A few players Tuesday asked me about Leland Fuerstman's recent apology on the Web that mentioned me.

Well, trust me on this -- as apologies go, it was pretty lame. Seems like the only thing he is sorry for is embarrassing me. I was expecting something along the lines of how his accusations against me embezzling loads of money at the 2009 State Scholastic were totally without merit. I didn't see that mentioned.

However, that issue was looked at last year and Fuerstman was totally discredited. Read the findings yourself.

Unable to abide by these findings, Fuerstman bolted from the N.C. Chess Association. The best outcome I could hope for.

That's why I fully support the Executive Committee in its desire to keep Fuerstman out of the QCCA. The founders have endured a few years of public and behind-the-scnes bashing by Fuerstman. Somehow, asking the QCCA to roll out the "Welcome Mat" for its No. 1 critic seems odd. I'm pretty new to the QCCA, but I'm guessing the founders have some sense of ownership in what they created.

Maybe the EC should start an information campaign to show members what they have seen over the years. Some members seemed like they didn't know the issue well enough. This isn't about me and Leland. That's settled ... I won. But many other members and organizations have suffered public bashings recently. There's a reason many QCCA members are "former" Charlotte Chess Club members. Let's see what has transpired.

Thanks for the input Randy and I'm working on exactly that. Members who haven't paid attention (God bless em!) or that might be hedging based on the misinformation that is out there need to know the truth and the whole story. This is not personal or political. Our position is easily supported by the facts. We will work on that and get it out for people to look at very soon. When a opinion is formed it should be one based on the facts. We will make sure the facts are out there. Stay tuned...Gary

Randy!

Thank you on all counts!  This is exactly what we need as Executive Team officers.  I would like to ask you permission to publish this letter, along with all the other documents, on our website.  I fear that not enough members come in here to read postings and this should become part of the record!

We are very happy to have you playing at the QCCA!

Fabio: Free free to use whatever I write for the site. I probably have some additional stuff in my files.

The conventional wisdom used to be "Ignore him, no one is listening." But there are a lot of new people on the chess scene who should get a primer on what's been said in the past. I know the QCCA and its members have received some cheap shots over the past few years. If this is the type of behavior the QCCA wants -- then, so be it. But the members deserve to know what's happened in the past.

Here's a great post where he rips the QCCA's Greater Charlotte Championship back in December.
